Devlog #8 Updates
HELLO FELLOW ESCAPISTS AND WELCOME BACK! How are all of you today? We suppose that it must be great right? So, for this devlog, we are going to tell you about all the updates that we have done to Escape! Here are the details:
1. New layout
Based on our lecturer’s advice, he asked us to change some of the screens in Escape! Such as the main menu screen, objective acreen, and also credits. He said that those screens are too crowded and the colors used are not complimenting each other well. We take this advice and we create a new screen layout for those screens. These new screens are more simple-looking but also still modern and they don’t make you feel crowded when seeing those screens. These screens will also use less color variation not like the original one. For now, the screens are still a secret and if you want to see it, wait for the next release of our new prototype which will be coming to you shortly.
2. Game mechanics
In the first prototype if you have try playing it, the jump action and the collision of the player with the power up seems very strange. For the jump, it is very difficult to do the action of jumping as it requires you to stop moving first, then you can jump. Also, the collision that happens when the main character is jumping and he collides with the tiles / platform is strange and sometimes, the main character will be stuck to the platform. We have try to apply some changes in the code section and change the size of the collision box and also the code for the jump action. Besides that, the thunder power up collision seems messed up because every time it collides with the player, the thunder power up icon doesn’t dissapear, but it just remain there and get stuck in the background. We have try to change the code for the thunder power up to fix this problem.
