Devlog #7 Advice for Changes

HELLO FELLOW ESCAPISTS! In this Devlog, we are going to share some advice from our lecturer (Ko Yogi Udjaja) about our game and what will be improve from the prototype we have made so far. So, last Monday we presented Escape! and the prototype to our lecturer and we got some advice about Escape! and some minor changes to the game that we should make and here are some of the advice about Escape! prototype:

1. Change the art style of the background

When we present our prototype to our lecturer, he asked us to change the art style of the background we used as it shifts the focus away and it will make the player feel disturbed because of the difference in the art style between the main assets and objects with the background. He said that for the background, it will be better if we change the art style for the background and make it uses the art style for the rest of the objects. This will help to make the players enjoy playing our game.

2. Take inspiration from Mario

Our lecturer also asked us to take inspiration from Mario games to make the level design. Our prototypes level design is a bit out of the box for platformer games because the platforms arrangement is odd (one by one). It will be better if we can make the arrangement of the platform longer so that our character can also run a lot, not just jump a lot.

3. Make objects interactable!

Third, our lecturer said that it is much better to make the character able to interact with the objects in the game. Here, he means that to open the winning door, it is better for the player to press a certain key to interact and open the door. Don't make the door automatically open by itself. The objects in the game should be able to interact with the player after the player presses a certain key in the keyboard.

4. Change the menu screen

Lastly, change the colors of the menu screen in the game as it contains too many colors that will be hard for the player to process. The amount of the colors used are too many and it is not good. So, we are suggested to think and make a better menu screen.
